The Benefits of Yoga in Schools

Dear educators,

I have introduced yoga and meditation in my classroom since 2014. My students are used to this routine and will choose to practice either one during the transition to a different block. This article will inform more about the benefits of practicing yoga or meditation in your classroom. I have found the practice very useful to help students to stay focused and relaxed. I usually teach yoga poses one by one. After students are comfortable with them, I will ask them to make their choice. I also play some relaxation music on Youtube and they will close their eyes and focus on their breathing for 2-5 minutes. Throughout the school day, I will probably repeat this practice from 3 to 5 times. I totally encourage you to give it a try!
Best,
Ms. Silvia

project to document his culture.

Here is what he wrote about his picture:

"I started to do yoga because my teacher Ms. Silvia teaches me how to do yoga in my classroom, so I can calm down. I decided to do it at home because it has been helping me to focus when I do my homework, without getting distracted. I also try meditation. I think it is good for me because when I breathe my back won't hurt. I can sit straight and meditate. That’s why I like to do yoga and meditation."
